School Trust - AmruthaVarshini Educational Trust, Kumarapatnam
AmruthaVarshini Educational Trust was formed in the year 2009. It was inspired by the philosophy and ideals of a noted Gandhian, Sri T K Sheshapaiyya of Thonse Kemmannu, Udupi Taluq and District.
T K Sheshpaiyya, (1889 - 1964) was affectionately called by his students and the villagers as the "Kemmannu Gandhi". He lost his wife just after the first year of marriage during an outbreak of small pox. This early loss of his beloved wife, spurred him to dedicate himself wholly to the cause of education and the uplift of the downtrodden by means of education. He took a loan of Rs 15 to buy a plot of land which was being used as a burial ground and constructed a school at Kemmannu in 1925. He fought the evils of caste system and brought quality education to the village of Kemmannu. He also is known for promoting women education. He admitted his only daughter to school to break the taboo against education of women.
AmruthaVarshini Trust, founded on T K Shesapaiyya's ideals has been setup and is being managed by T K Sheshapaiyya's grandsons and great grandsons.
